Andy Lau, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, and Stephen Chow are now three of the biggest movie stars in Hong Kong, but they all made their starts in television over two decades ago. Viewers can revisit these three stars' ruffled-hair youth with the 1980s RTHK series Crossroads. This release consists of three 23-minute short dramas about problem teenagers and their coming-of-age troubles.
Determination
Andy Lau stars as willful youth Ma Lau who, after being cheated of his wages, makes trouble at his construction worksite with a friend. They carelessly start a fire that leads to disastrous consequences. After this incident, Ma Lau is determined to atone for his mistakes and start anew, but his friend refuses to change, sending the two down opposite paths.
Allowance
Comedy king Stephen Chow plays it serious as a troubled youth on drugs. Ah Bong comes from a wealthy home, but lacks familial love. When he finds out his friend wants a computer, Ah Bong sells him his computer at a low price, and then uses the money to buy drugs. This is an especially rare release as it is Stephen Chow's only RTHK appearance from his early years.
Wrong Road
Tony Leung Chiu Wai struggles between right and wrong as a high school student. Ah Man is a hardworking and filial teenager, but he and his friends get into a lot of trouble after fighting with some local gangsters at the basketball court. Wanted by the police, Ah Man must decide whether to run away or turn himself in. |
