1. the 36th Chamber Of Shaolin (Blu-ray)
(Shaw Brothers) (1978)
Synopsis :
The legendary martial arts director wanted
to do the impossible: create a kung-fu filled
epic about the making of a Shaolin Temple
master -- a "love story of the spirit," as he
called it. The result (a.k.a. Master Killer)
was Shaws' number one hit of 1978, the 24th
Asian Film Festival's Best Martial Arts Award
winner, and is considered a trendsetting,
innovative masterpiece throughout the world.
Liang's adoptive brother stars as a reluctant
rebel who arduously masters one training
"chamber" after another.
2. Return To The 36th Chamber (Blu-ray)
(Shaw Brothers) (1980)
Synopsis :
The original 36th Chamber of Shaolin
(a.k.a. Master Killer) proved so popular that a
sequel was called for. But master martial arts
filmmaker Lau Kar Leung (a.k.a. Liu Chia-liang)
eschewed the plot and characters of the
original to create a delightful all-new story
which showcased his adoptive brother as a
hapless loser... That is, until he is convinced
to help repair the run-down Shaolin Temple.
Only then does he unknowingly learn a new kind
of construction kung-fu to liberate his
townspeople from the persecuting Manchus!
3. Disciples Of The 36th Chamber (Blu-ray)
(Shaw Brothers) (1984)
Synopsis :
Legendary martial arts director Liu Chia-
liang (a.k.a. Lau Kar Leung) strikes gold as he
directs the golden robed real life hero Monk
San Te played by his half-brother Liu Chia-hui
(a.k.a. Gordon Liu). Gordon reprises the role
that shot him into superstardom in The 36th
Chamber of Shaolin in the unofficial third
sequel Disciples of the 36th Chamber. Per
usual, Liu's action direction is mind-boggling
and never ceases to amaze. |
